Dartmoor granite sphere

This small sphere is made entirely from rocks and clays from Dartmoor in Devon. The body is based on a secondary china clay that is high in iron, with added quartz and feldspar. The glazes are made using blends of Dartmoor granite with local sedimentary rocks. It is something of a rarity, having the character of one of my much larger pots that get buried in embers during the firing. This one got well coated in wood ash but seemed to escape the final heat of the firing so the surface has developed a wonderfully varied satin surface.
