Black and white woodfired cup

This cup is made from a porcelain type body that I make up myself from Cornish china clay, and has felsite chunks embedded in it. It is glazed inside with an Aberdeen granite based glaze. The unglazed outside has developed a rich surface during the firing caused by fly ash and volatiles from the wood. It has been caught between reduction (the carbon trapping producing a rich black) and oxidation, giving a dramatic change in body colour.
